Over 90 judges tasted wines from over 25 countries in The Mira Hotel on the 24th February 2012

(Hong Kong, February 28th 2012) – On Friday 24th February 2012, China Wine Awards hosted the first ever China Best Value Wine & Spirits Awards at The Mira hotel with almost 500 wines tasted by over 90 judges. Winners have been announced on the China Wine Awards site today (http://www.chinawineawards.com/china-best-value-wine-spirits-awards-2012/).

Among the results, the Chinese based winery, Chateau Auzias, won a Gold award for their 2007 Chateau Reifeng-Auzias Syrah.

The event held on Friday successfully hosted over 300 guests including 90 of Greater China’s key buyers, distributors, wine enthusiasts, VIP guests and trade commissioners including, Cara G., Hong Kong supermodel; Florence Ng, The Mira Hotel Manager; Erich Fuss, Director of the US Agricultural Trade Office; Luca Formentini, Commercial Attaché of Italy; Kevin Parish, New Zealand Trade Commissioner of Hong Kong & Macau; Caroline Sprod, the U.K. Assistant Trade Commissioner; Claudio Salgado, The Consul General Ordre Des Coteaux De Champagne for Greater China and Guillaume Raboutet from Ubifrance.

The first event of its kind, the China Best Value Wine & Spirits Awards were created to give lower price point wines the opportunity to shine and to be further exposed to the rapidly growing market. The competition compared wines against others of the same price point that would suit the China market.

Over 90 top – tier judges were carefully selected for the blind tasting. Among these included wine buyers, distributors, food & beverage directors and wine sommeliers based in Greater China who really understood the Chinese wine market.
